Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) I have to say, I have very mixed feelings about 5 star. I am pretty turned off from ordereing from them again. I wont make this too long, but I do want to tell the whole story. The short version – Had to call back many times to get the story behind my order. Had flavors listed on the website they did not have. When I received my order the KM hammer tongs I ordered were scratched to hell, and had coal reside/powder on them. Alex offered to send me a shipping lable and refund me, but claimed that all KM hammer tongs came like that because of how they were made. I did not buy that for a second and consulted some people who's oponions I trust, and they also agreed I was sent used tongs. He did include a free fancy/Nu hose and a 50g box of Al fakher to apologize for the troubles, but the tong issue pushed me over, its to shady for me to order from again. I would only order from them again for Fumari coals for my Goza, and if I can get them anywhere else or find a better alternative, I will. The long detailed version – placed my first order on a sunday evening, east coast. I had ordered Tangiers Welsh Cream in Noir, and Peach Iced Tea in lucid because I could not find it in Noir on the website. I also ordered a 250g box of Nakhla Mint, a box of Chronic Hookah nats, a box of Fumari coals, and some KM Hammer Tongs. I had seen a fumari promotion earlier in the week and sent an email along with my order asking if it was still good. Monday comes and goes and I have no reply to my email or anything else. No harm done at this point. I went to smoke that night and noticed that my Fancy/Nu hose was starting to crack. I had not received any email that my order had been shiped either, so I sent another email asking if I could add a green fancy/nu hose to my order and if they could adjust my charge for me. I woke up on tuesday to an email from alex@5starhookah.com saying that they would be happy to do that for me, to call in the morning. Being on the east coast , I have a 3 hours time difference. So I call at 12 my time, 9 their time. Alex picks up and I had told him that I had received an email from them the following night saying that I could att the hose to my order. He told me, no, it was not from him (even though its from alex@5starhookah.com..). He said that he could not help me, that I had to wait for someone else to get there. I found that strange that the owner of the buisness could not help me, but ok. So 3 hours later I call back, and the person I need to talk to is still not there. Alex said he would try to help me in the mean time. I gave him my invoice number, and he said there was no record of my order. I said I knew this to be wrong as I was looking at my order on the website, and I had also confirmed with my bank that my payment went though. He then told me that if I had ordered Sunday, my order would have been shipped Monday. He asked me to tell him what was in my order. When I told him Welsh Cream he stopped me and said that he knows he did not ship it out because they have not had it in “weeks”. He then said I just needed to call back to speak with the person, I think her name was Mary whens he got there. So I try agian, and he said she was having some car troubles. He offered to have her call me, but I said no, because I would not be available and would call back a few hours later. So I do, and finally get through to Mary. She cleared things up some, and said that he could not find my order because she had set it aside because they did not have the Welsh Cream and she needed to call me. She said that the “Tangiers rep was supposed to bring the Welsh Cream today” but had not. So we ended up switch my order around some. They did end up having Peach Iced Tea in Noir even though it was not on the website, so I got that and switched to lucid to ILTOBC. She said the Fumari promotion was no longer going on, but would throw something else in for me. Very cool and appriciated. It was shippied out and I received it quickly. My Fancy/Nu hose was in there, as well as a 50g box of Al Fakher kiwi. However, the KM Hammer tongs had a ton, and I mean a TON of scratches on them. The tips were also blackened from coal powder, and If I ran my fingers agross them they would come off dirty. They were obviously used. I called 5 star and left a message. He called me back about 20 minutes later. I thanked him for the free products, but told him about the tongs and that I was not happy. He said that all KM tongs were like that because they were hand made and made from scrap metal. I find that hard to believe. He said that if I wanted he would send me a shipping label and I could send them back and get a refund. I told him I would think about it , because I wanted to ask around. I asked a few people and they agreed, the tongs had been used. I ended up keeping them because they ARE tongs, and will get that way anyway, but its still bad shady business, and I paid for new tongs, not used ones. TL;DR Everything combined, the mixed up stories, the fact that the owner could not help me , and getting a used/damaged item has turned me off from ordering again. I will say that he did give me some free items and offered to refund, but it should never have happened in the first place.
